Now is the time to enjoy the wonders of nature and a true winter wonderland. The Berkshires is experiencing the biggest snowstorm of the season as I am writing this blog. By Friday we should have 30" of beautiful powder, perfect for skiing, snow shoeing or making that perfect snowman.
Butternut is the perfect choice for down hill skiing and we have discount tickets available for you. If you prefer cross country try Canterbury Farms. Perhaps you want to snow shoe in Kennedy Park or on the grounds of the Inn. We have snow shoes for you to borrow. Come to the Inn at Stockbridge and take advantage of our stay more save more special.
Winter in the Berkshires is beautiful and enjoy the snow before spring arrives. There is even some culture now. Visit Shakespeare and Company and see Dangerous Liaisons after you day on the slopes and end the perfect day in a double whirlpool in one of our barn or cottage house suites.

Winter Hiking in the Beautiful Berkshires

The Berkshires is truly a four season destination. It is special to live here every season and enjoy the magic that nature brings to us every day 365 days a year. Today I enjoyed a beautiful day with a picture perfect blue sky and perfect temperatures to enjoy this winter wonderland. Yak Tracks, winter underwear, gloves and hat were a necessity but I felt warm. A bowl of soup after the hike was very enjoyable. My hiking group chose to visit Wacannah falls today. Every week our fearless leader Freya chooses a different destination. It is often difficult to choose whether to go with the group or participate in Yoga at Kripalu. Life is wonderful owning the beautiful Inn at Stockbridge and enjoying a place as close to paradise as one can get. You too can enjoy this wonderful destination as our guest. Wahconah Falls State Park

Located in the heart of the Berkshire Hills, Wahconah Falls offers visitors spectacular scenic views anytime of year. Wahconah Falls Brook flows over several smaller tiered falls then cascades about 40 feet into a deep pool. The falls "roar," especially during spring run-off. Relax, picnic or fish in the shade of the northern hardwood-conifer forest, or take a hike on the 0.5 mile loop trail (moderate difficulty) through open woods and along upper portions of the falls.

Valentines Day is February 14, but at the Inn at Stockbridge bed&breakfast in the Berkshires we are celebrating love and Valentines all month long. Love is the ultimate weapon! This wickedly entertaining story of love, sex and betrayal is as sumptuously guilt-inducing as a decadent chocolate you just can't resist. Depicting the devious schemes of French aristocrats on the cusp of the Revolution, it heats up the intimate Bernstein Theatre at Shakespeare & Company this winter under the direction of Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer.

Packer directs Elizabeth Aspenlieder, who won the coveted Elliot Norton Award for her tour de force performance in Bad Dates last winter, and Josh Aaron McCabe, most recently seen last fall as Sherlock Holmes (and a host of other characters, both male and female) in the runaway hit The Hound of the Baskervilles. Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) was ahead of its time as a novel in 1782 and it still may be ahead of its time today.
This play is running until March 21.

You may prefer down hill sking at Ski Butternut or perhaps Jiminy Peak>. Perhaps you may prefer Xcountry sking. I personally enjoy Canterbury Farms. They even have a great cozy loungs. Another favorite XCountry ski destination is hilltop orchards.
If you just want to have fun in the snow try our snow shoes. We have several pair available for you to borrow free of charge.
The Berkshires is a true winter wonderland waiting for you to explore. We even have discount passes for you to Butternut.

Celebrating 62 Years of Wedded Bliss

The Inn is a wonderful place for couple and families to celebrate wonderful life cycle events. We feel very fortunate that our guests choose to celebrate with us at The Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires. Last week we met Rose Mary & David Cole who celebrated 62 years of marriage. Rose Mary & David are a wonderful couple and an inspiration to all for a life well lived. They were married in Bad Axe Michigan on December 29, 1947. Rose Mary was a teacher for 33 years in Michigan, NY, PA & CT. Her first assignment was in a one room country school where she taught grades K-8. David managed a grocery warehouse. They now live in Chesire Ct near their daughter and family. They came to the inn with their daughter and son in law to celebrate their anniversary. They had a wonderful dinner at Once upon a Table. I often ask guests who are celebrating anniversaries what they think is the secret to a happy marriage. David and Rose Mary said the "secret is to enjoy one another and stick together on important and unimportant things." They truly seem to enjoy one another and it was a pleasure to meet them.
Len & I will be celebrating our 39 anniversary in April and think of Rose Mary & David as an inspiration. You too can celebrate all your special occasions at the Inn.

I would like to wish you our reader and hopefully a new prospective guest or a previous returning guest a happy and healthy New Year. I hope that 2010 brings happiness peace and prosperity to our country and to all of you.
The Inn at Stockbridge is a perfect place to be this holiday season. If you are stressed from your job, kids and life this is the place to get away from it all. We just had a couple stay with us who are both attorneys and have three young children and new puppy. She was thrilled that she slept 12 hour one night and 11 the other. A walk in Kennedy Park and dinner at Chez Nous and Viva, heavenly. The fireplace and whirlpol tub just added to the romance.
If you are in need of some R&R and an escape from your daily routine this is the place to be. Check out our specials for the winter season, you will be glad you did.

Last weekend Stockbridge hosted the 20th Christmas in Stockbridge weekend. ABC News covered this event and called Stockbridge the quintessential New England Town that is the home to the Norman Rockwell Museum. A town that takes one back to better times when life was easier. Holiday Happenings In the Berkshires

The Berkshires is a perfect place to spend the holidays this season. Fresh snow makes the Inn at Stockbridge a winter wonderland. The Inn is decorated in all it glory as the mansion is now 103 years old. Come view pen and ink drawings that are sent to us each season by our friend Barry Ottenstein. Celebrate Chanukah and the holiday season and visit the Berkshire Museum and view the festival of trees. This is 25th year of this annual event which is on view from November 14–January 3 2010. Each year, the Berkshire Museum spruces up the galleries with scores of festive trees decorated by community organizations, businesses, and school children. This year, to mark the Festival’s Silver Anniversary, the trees have been inspired by the theme Silver Bells.
While visiting the Berkshires this holiday season you can ski at Butternut, visit Ventfort Hall and the Rockwell Museum as well as go to the Berkshire Theatre Festival to see the Christmas Carol.

Christmas in Stockbridge Weekend

The Inn at Stockbridge is getting ready to celebrate the 20th Christmas at Stockbridge Weekend in our Stockbridge B&B on December 4-6. The Inn will be decorated in all its glory to prepare for the Christmas & Hanukkah season.
Our town Stockbridge, made famous by Norman Rockwell's painting of the village during the holidays, becomes a magical New England setting decorated with holiday wreaths and festive lights, as the town celebrates the 20th annual Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas, December 5th and 6th.

Sponsored by the Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce, the holiday celebration offers a full range of activities, with highlights including a holiday house tours, caroling, and a holiday concert.

Capping off the weekend is a recreation on Sunday of the scene depicted in Main Street at Christmas, complete with vintage automobiles parked in the spots occupied in the painting. The day's activities include horse drawn rides, a visit from Santa, Roger the Jester, lunch at the Christmas Food Booth and much more.

The festivities celebrate Rockwell's popular depiction of what for many is the quintessential small New England Town, with all the longing for a simpler time that it represents. Rockwell began painting the popular image in 1956, but did not complete it until December 1967.

The image and character of Stockbridge has changed little over the years, thanks to the great care and affection of its residents, and it is that special ambiance which draws so many.

Alice & Len Schiller, owner-innkeepers of the Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires of western Ma are thrilled to have the Norman Rockwell Museum in their hometown and are delighted to be corporate supporters of the Museum. The Rockwell museum is always on the cutting edge of bringing new exhibits to the museum to supplement their mission. A landmark exhibition that sheds new light on Norman Rockwell’s art and artistry will opened on November 7 at Norman Rockwell Museum. “Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera” is the first exhibition to explore in depth Rockwell’s richly detailed study photographs, created by the artist as references for his iconic paintings. Organized with author and guest curator Ron Schick, whose companion book of the same name is being released in October by Little, Brown and Company, the exhibition (and publication) reveals a rarely seen yet fundamental aspect of Rockwell’s creative process, and unveils a significant new body of Rockwell imagery in an unexpected medium.

We Love Our Repeat Guests at The Inn at Stockbridge

Alice & Len Schiller, owner/innkeepers of the Inn at Stockbridge B&B in The Berkshires of Western MA really enjoy our frequent repeat guests. This confirms that we must be doing a great job that our guests want to keep coming back. Last weekend we enjoyed the company of John & Rayna Keenan from Worcester MA. John & Rayna first visited us in July 2004 and were intrigued be the Out of Africa Suite. Rayna is originally from Northern Rhodesia which is now Zambia. Rayna has fond memories of her former home. Rayna was educated in Capetown South Africa and lived in Aberdeen Scotland before moving to Boston in 1971. John and Rayna have been married for 26 years and now live in Worcester. Jack is an attorney and spends most of his practice in litigation in the Worcester court house. Jack was born and raised in NYC and educated at Holy Cross in Worcester. He went off to the Marine Corp and the back to Boston College for law school.
John and Rayna have been regular guests of the Inn since 2004. They love the culture, restaurants and the other guests that frequent the Inn. They came this weekend mainly to see Red Remembers at the BTF and were thrilled that David Garrison joined us for breakfast and that they had the opportunity to meet him.
Rayna commented that they consider the Inn at Stockbridge their home away from home and always enjoy visiting with Alice, Len & Mia. We hope to have the pleasure of Rayna and John's company again real soon.

Alice & Len Schiller, owner/innkeepers of the Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires are always pleased when a guest at the Inn asks if they can invite someone for breakfast. I keep on blogging because we are always having interesting guests pass through our doors. Yesterday we were pleased to invite David Garrison, center, who is presently starring in Red Remembers at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. He was invited to the Inn by our guests Bob Unger & Pamela Singer. David, Bob And Pamela were all students at Boston University together where all three were students of theatre. We also discovered that Pamela was in a show with Rita Moreno a former guest of the Inn Pamela works in stage management. Bob is now an attorney in corporate law. Bob & Pamela reside in NYC and have a vacation cottage in Pawling NY. David lives in Manhattan and in Santa Fee New Mexico.
David is most known for his role in Married with Children. He played Steve the next door neighbor who was married to Marcy. Most recently he starred in Wicked as the Wizard. David was thrilled to have breakfast with Bob & Pamela. Last week he also dined at the Inn with Lucy Johnson, former VP with CBS daytime. David grew up on the Jersey Shore and was always a fan of Red Barber David is not sure what his next role will be but hopes his agent is working on his behalf.
We are always delighted when we have the opportunity to sit down with our guests and get to know them a bit better. After all what Len & I enjoy most about owning and operating the Inn at Stockbridge is the people that we get to meet.
Perhaps we will get the opportunity to meet you next. One never knows.

Sisters Enjoy Time Together at The Inn at Stockbridge

Alice & Len Schiller, owner/innkeepers of the Inn at Stockbridge feel that it is an honor to have loyal repeat guests choose to spend their precious time together at the Inn. Patty Fogelstrom and Debbie Perno started coming to the Inn in October 2001. Patty lives in Ct and Debbie lives in Corrales New Mexico. Patty & Debbie first came to the Inn as a gift from Patty's husband Bruce. Patty was recently diagnosed at that time with a rare blood cancer. Each year that Patty and Debbie return to the Inn is a continued celebration of life. They come to the inn each year looking to have a wonderful time together and to celebrate a new year of survival. While at the Inn Patti & Debbie enjoyed massages and wonderful restaurants. They conclude their stay with a dinner at The Red lion Inn where they enjoy the popovers. Debbie played golf at Greenock Country Club in the brisk autumn air. One would never know the amount of pain Patty is in. She thanks her children Bryan & Christie for their constant support as well as her devoted husband Bruce. Debbie visits Patty in the spring and fall each year and the sisters look forward to their special time together.
Debbie & her husband Tony own Case Work Technologies in New Mexico. Patty's husband Bruce owns Last Mile Communications, a consulting company for cable companies. Bruce is fortunate enough to work from home to be there for Patty.
Its our sincere pleasure to spend time with Patty & Debbie and to share in their journey. We plan to see them the same time next year

Previous Owner of the Inn at Stockbridge Say Hello

I am always amazed at who steps through the doors of the Inn at Stockbridge Bed & Breakfast in the Berkshires. The other day the bell rings and I am ready to check in a new arrival. I seem to recognize the lady and take a second look. She seems familiar. I look again and she says nothing. Then I recognize her. She is Lee Weitz, the previous owner of the Inn. Lee & Don Weitz owned the Inn for about fourteen years prior to us. Over the years they stopped by to say hello and catch up. We always enjoyed seeing them as they are nice caring people who built up a wonderful business which we are pleased to now own.
It was wonderful to catch up. Lee & Don have two children and eleven grandchildren. They now live in Leisure World in Lansdowne VA. We talked about life after Innkeeping, grandchildren etc. I mentioned that Len & I are looking forward to being grandparents as well. Our daughter Felicia and her husband Moty are expecting their first child. We are excited to be joining a new club, the grandparents club. We spoke about the longest return guest , Dr Marvin & Naomi Lipman. We are a very pleasant visit and Lee mentioned how she misses the Inn as it was an important part of her life. She misses all the wonderful people that visit us and enrich our lives as well. Thank you Lee for suprising us with you appearance. We hope to see you again soon.

Wonderful People visit the Inn at Stockbridge

I must have said it hundreds of times but its worth repeating. I love Innkeeping because of the guests that pass through our doors. Every season is different bringing different types of guests. The fall brings the most diverse group of people from all over the states, England and places far and near all looking for the beautiful foliage that mother nature brings us each year. Last week we had the pleasure of meeting Kelly & Ray Owen and their Aunt and Uncle Madeline and Stanley Brown. They were the most pleasant interesting people. Kerry and Ray Owen live in Hot Springs National park in Arkansas which they informed us was the first National park in the US. Owen and Kerry are long term friends of Bill Clinton. In fact Kerry dated Bill many moons ago. They have been great friends over many years. Kerry knew back then that Bill Clinton was special and would go on to do great things. He wanted to make the world a better place. They attended both inaugural balls. Owen is a Justice of the Peace in Hot Springs. He was an engineer and a jack of all trades and dabbled in many things. Kerry is a retired English teacher and taught drama and communications. She won the award for teacher of the year. Madeline and Stanley Brown are from Miami Florida Stanley retired from the hotel business. He owned several hotels in Miami and sold the last one 10 years ago.
The Owens and Brown's made visiting the Inn at Stockbridge Bed & Breakfast in the Berkshires part of their New England Fall tour. They love the charm of the New England villages and a and raved about the New England warmth and hospitality. They are also visiting Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. We are thrilled to have met them and hope they visit us again.

Golf in the Berkshires

Alice Schiller, owner-innkeeper of The Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires has started a new hobby. Would you believe I am taking golf lessons. I told my father Seymour Yanofski that I am taking golf and he said he tried it and that you should do what you want when you want to do it. I am taking his advise as he is always very wise. What could be better then walking a beautiful golf course on a beautiful day in the beautiful Berkshires. Many of my Mah jong friends play at the Pittsfield Country Club and I want to be able to join them. My motto is to always try new things to keep yourself interested.
I asked many friends who is the best golf teacher and everyone recommended Kay McMahon who is a real pro. She is a great teacher and even video tapes the lessons. Today I actually played nine holes at Egermont Country Club with another beginning student of Kays and had a great time. What a beautiful day. On another occasion I play with another friend at Greenock Country Club. Take your pick perhaps you will want to try Stockbridge Country Club. Visit the Inn at Stockbridge this fall and enjoy the game of golf on any of the courses I named. Perhaps you will even want to call Kay and take a lesson. Its never to late to try something, you may never be a Tiger Woods but you may enjoy the sport.
Even innkeepers need to take time out to enjoy the Berkshires and the beauty that surrounds us.

Alice & Len Schiller, innkeepers at the Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires had a wonderful summer and wish to thank our loyal guests for their continued patronage. After the Labor Day weekend we look forward to taking a break. After spending the summer in the beautiful Berkshire hills we look forward to visiting the ocean and walking in the sand and hearing the sound of water. A busmen's vacation was planned using our organization Select Registry as a wonderful resource. The destination of the Jersey shore was chosen and a visit to the Sand Castle B&B on Long Beach Island was planned. We had a wonderful time and its great to be on the receiving end of warm hospitality, wonderful breakfasts and a great guest room. Everything was perfect. I feel that I made a new friend. Nancy Gallimore, owner innkeeper is everything an innkeeper should be. Besides being a solo owner Nancy is a nature photographer and a pilot of a Little Sessna airplane. Nancy shared with us some of her nature photographs. I enjoyed seeing her photo of a Red Colobus monkey from Zanzibar, fighting Zebras from Botswana and Penguins from Antarctica. Nancy enjoys birdwatching in Florida where she is a member of a nature birdwatching group and a photography club. She occasionally displays her nature photographs at the Fort Myers Camera club.
Len and I enjoyed meeting Nancy and hope to spend more time with our new friend in the future. Innkeepers are special people with diverse talents and abilities from all walks of life. We hope that we offer the same wonderful hospitality and delicious food and a needed vacation to our guests. Come to The Inn at Stockbridge as a guest and leave as friends as we did at the Sand Castle B&B at Barnaget Light on Long Beach Island NJ.

Stockbridge is a romantic historic New England town located in the Berkshire Mountains. It is an easy two hours drive from Boston or one hour's drive from Albany. I truly love the Berkshires. The logo for the Berkshire Visitors Bureau is Nature, Culture & Harmony. On most of the Blogs I write about the wonderful guests that visit The Inn at Stockbridge and how the enjoy all the culture that the Berkshires has to offer. Sometimes I take time away from the Inn to engage in one of my passions, Kayaking. I am never going to enter a race but I love to get my feet wet and enjoy the many beautiful waterways that the Berkshires has to offer. The other day I went to Stockbridge Bowl with a group of friends on a picture perfect day. The landmark Berkshire lake with an island nature preserve, Tanglewood, and ambience that says all is right with the world. The waters of Stockbridge Bowl have glimmered in the Berkshire sun for thousands of years. Originally scoured from the landscape by ice age glaciers, the lake has an attractiveness about it that defies description. This ethereal quality extends beyond the lake’s physical char... . I can't begin to describe the natural beauty that is the Berkshires.
You to can take time out from your busy schedule and enjoy this beauty as well. Rent a kayak from the Arcadian Shop, they will deliver it to Stockbridge Bowl for you too can enjoy the beauty that is all around us. It will be a day to remember.

Guests & High School Days Come Together at The Inn at Stockbridge

This blog continues as guests keep on returning and events keep on happening at the Inn at Stockbridge in the Berkshires. I am constantly amazed at what a small world it is and how we are all connected by one degree of separation. Diane & Evelyn Rosenthal are sisters who love dance and the Inn. In this visit Diane came with her daughter Ariel & her friend Val. They returned this year for a girls weekend. They came mostly for the dance at Jacobs Pillow and to see Renee Harris in Pure Movement. They also saw Liberation in the Doris Duke Theatre as well as an inside out performance. Diane loves dance and was a dance major in college and met her husband Mark writing dance reviews for a show business newspaper in NYC. Ariel follows in her mother's footsteps and is studying dance at GW University. Evelyn works in the garment industry for Outerstuff Childrens Clothing and runs the quality control division. Diane runs the literacy network in Stanford Ct.
As I said earlier high school days and the Inn merged. When Diane first called the Inn for a reservation several years ago we got into a conversation and discovered Diane was from the Bronx and went to the same high school as Len.
Its always a pleasure touching base with Diane, her sister Evelyn her daughter and husband Mark. We look forward to welcoming them back to the Inn for many more years.

Guests & Local Friends Come together at The Inn at Stockbridge

Alice Schiller , owner of the Inn at Stockbridge, continues this blog to highlight the various guests that return to the Inn year after year. Its always a pleasure when local friends and guests can meet in such a special place and catch up.
We had the pleasure of hosting Josh & Judy Weston last week. Josh & Judy are friends of some Andi & Jeffrey Goodman, local friends from West Stockbridge. At the Inn we often find that there is only one degree of separation. The Weston's and the Goodman's are friends as a result of a mutual friendship with George & Liz Ruderman who worked at General electric with Jeffrey. George spotted Jeffrey as a future leader at General Electric. George took Jeffrey under his wing and mentored him and treated him like an adopted son. Jeffrey feels he owes his success to George. Josh & Judy are friends of the the Rudderman's from New Jersey. Josh Weston is the former chairman of the board of ADP from 1986-1998 and is now honoray chairman. Today Josh Weston makes a continued contribution to the many boards he is on. He is heavily involved in Boys Town Jerusalem and the Museum of Natural History.
Judy supports the National Dance Institute founded in 1976 by Jacques D'Amboise. The NDI uses dance as a catalyst to engage inner city kids from NYC in Dance.
Its a pleasure to know Josh & Judy Weston who continue to make a strong contribution to so many various good causes and help to make this world a better place.
We hope Josh & Judy visit us next year choose to and take an upgrade from the Petite Room.
While in the Berkshires the Weston's visited Tanglewood and the various other cultural venues in the Berkshires

Thirty Years & Counting at The Inn at Stockbridge

Dr. Marvin & Naomi Lipman have the distinct honor of being the most long term guests at the Inn at Stockbridge B&B in the Berkshires. They even preceded us at the Inn. They have stayed in every room at the inn but love the Terrace room, they call it Marvin's room. Marvin & Naomi are photoed on the Terrace room private deck on which the love to listen to quiet music and read the New york Times.
The Lipmans have lived in Scarsdale for 43 years. Dr Marvin has been a member of the Scarsdale Medical Group for over 40 years. The group was started by Dr Herman Tarnower, the author of the Scarsdale Diet. Marvin is professor of Medicine at New York Medical College in Valhalla and is Chief Medical Advisor to Consumer Reports. I fondly remember when Dr. Lipman would edit his columns and constantly send and receive faxes. Computers now make this task simpler. Naomi was travel editor for the health and travel newsletter for many years.

While in the Berkshires they always visit Tanglewood and enjoyed Yo Yo Ma and Carmen Bernana. They enjoyed the Prisoner on Second Ave at the Berkshire Theatre Festival and Jacobs Pillow. The Lipmans now love to spend time in NYC and enjoy the culture of the Metropolitan Opera and Theatre and to spend time with their three grandchildren. Marvin & Naomi love the Berkshires and the Inn at Stockbridge and plan to return next year.
