Between the hiking trails, the natural areas perfect for wildlife viewing and birdwatching, and the many bodies of water, there is a little something for everyone. And when we say everyone, we mean you and your pet! There are plenty of dog parks and pet-friendly hiking trails in the Berkshires for you and your fur baby to enjoy together. Dog Parks in the Berkshires

French Park – Egremont, MA

This dog-friendly park has a one acre, fenced in area for dogs to run and play. Make sure to bring water for your dog so that they can refresh themselves after all that off-leash freedom fun.
Located about 12 miles from the Inn.

Dufresne Park – Granby, MA

This large park is the perfect place to spend a day outdoors fishing, hiking, and picnicking in the spring, summer, or fall. There is a dog park within the larger park that gives your furry friend a chance to play fetch and mingle with other friendly pups.

Pet-Friendly Hiking Trails in the Berkshires

Monument Mountain Reservation – Stockbridge, MA

The trails at this historic location are great for dogs and give you the ability to let your pet off-leash so you can enjoy exploring together. This popular peak allows for spectacular views of the Southern Berkshires and the Housatonic River Valley. There are several loop trails that will lead you and your dog up to the summit. The trail can get slippery in wet weather, so stay safe and make sure to watch your footing and keep an eye on your pup.

Kennedy Park – Lenox, MA

You can enjoy the many pet-friendly trails of this multi-use area with your dog from sun up to sun down. The trails of this park are frequented by hikers and mountain bikers in the summer, as well as cross-country skiers in the winter. Make sure to keep your dog leashed, as the trails are also sometimes used by horseback riders.

October Mountain State Forest – Lee, MA

At 16,500 acres, this year-round state forest is the largest in Massachusetts. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the hiking trails and camping areas. With multiple waterways running through the forest, it is a great place to launch a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and spend the day paddling around with your pet. Please be aware that parking fees do apply.

Ashuwillticook Rail Trail – Lanesborough, MA

With your leashed pet in tow, you can enjoy this long stretch of trail on foot or on a bike. The now paved 11-mile trail runs through the towns of Cheshire, Lanesborough, and Adams and was once a railroad track. It also runs along the Cheshire Reservoir and the Hoosic River, which both offer great views of wildlife and fishing opportunities.

Mount Greylock State Reservation – Lanesborough, MA

Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts at 3,491 feet. Your leashed dog is welcome to join you on the many hiking trails, including the pet-friendly trail that leads to the summit which offers views up to 90 miles away. Enjoy this state reservation any time of the year.
